LEARN Shona, an initiative aimed at preserving the Zimbabwean language and culture by Tarisiro Fundira, a Zimbabwean living in the diaspora, has collaborated with pop star Takura Shonhai in a new track titled Rudo Rweshuwa.
The move is meant to enhance Shona language in the diaspora as most people born abroad often grow up disconnected from their roots.
For many Zimbabweans in the diaspora, language is one of the first things lost with time.
Fundira says he is tackling this issue head-on.
“Zimbabwean music has long had an audience abroad, and Learn Shona is tapping into that connection. We aim to get to our audience not through classrooms or textbooks, but through music,” he said.
Learn Shona has previously worked with Zimbabwean contemporary musicians such as Kae Chaps, Poptain, Kayflow and Natasha Muz, using their platforms to increase traction for Shona-language learning content on YouTube.
Now, with Rudo Rweshuwa, they continue their mission of keeping the Shona language alive through the sounds of today.
