OVER 100 young people have received practical skills under the recently launched vocational training programme in Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituency, Midlands province, aimed at tackling youth unemployment and drug abuse.
The programme offers intensive one-week courses in high-demand trades such as tailoring, welding, baking and detergent-making, among others.
Chirumanzu-Zibagwe legislator Jacob Chokururama praised Tonganyika Trust for launching vocational training in his constituency.
“Investing in vocational skills is investing in sustainable development,” he said.
“When young people are equipped with employable skills, they not only secure their futures but also contribute to the growth of our local economy.
“Upon completion, participants receive accredited certifications, opening pathways to employment or entrepreneurship.”
Chokururama claimed that he paid 50% of the training costs to showcase public-private partnership with the Tonganyika Trust.
“This initiative combats youth idleness by providing practical, hands-on training tailored to specific trades and industries,” he added.
The success of the programme has already sparked interest from several wards in the constituency.
