LSU innovation hub construction takes shape

LUPANE State University

LUPANE State University (LSU) is moving ahead with the construction of its innovation hub to support research and learning.

University authorities said the hub was set to become a powerhouse of creativity, ideas and industrial solutions, aligning with the country’s thrust towards Vision 2030.

LSU acting vice-chancellor, Thulani Dube, highlighted the transformative role the innovation hub will play in driving the country’s development agenda. He said it would be a centre for practical solution-driven innovation.

“This teaching complex will focus on innovation. We will have our innovators housed in this building, working on inventive ideas that will contribute directly to industrialisation,” Dube said during a media tour.

“The hub is expected to serve as a vibrant space where students, researchers and entrepreneurs collaborate to tackle real-world challenges, ranging from agricultural technology and climate-smart solutions to wildlife conservation and rural development.”

Upon completion, the innovation hub will house think-tanks and incubators that focus on practical solutions in agriculture, renewable energy, rural development and technology.

Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Paul Damasane, hailed LSU’s proactive approach to infrastructure and knowledge development, especially in a region long plagued by underdevelopment.

“LSU is taking the right strides in implementing its infrastructural development to support innovation within the institution,” he said.

“Despite tough conditions, they’ve found ways to combat the terrain and build something bigger and better.”

As one of the new State universities, LSU was established with a clear mandate to generate practical solutions rooted in academia, especially for marginalised communities.
