Lightning kills 1, burns Tsholotsho homestead

It is said the deceased and his four friends were drawing water from a community borehole and sought shelter under a tree when it started raining.

A TSHOLOTSHO boy from Mabhandeni line in Mlangisa village was struck dead by lightning after he sought shelter under a tree during a heavy downpour.

It is said the deceased and his four friends were drawing water from a community borehole and sought shelter under a tree when it started raining.

Ward 4 councillor Gift Tshuma confirmed the tragic incident saying one of the boys sustained head injuries after he was also struck by lightning.

“On Sunday, we received a thunderstorm at 6pm and an hour later; someone came to my house informing me of the incident. The lightning struck a tree first, before the boy,” said Tshuma.

It was revealed that a house in Malila village caught fire after it was struck by lightning.

The owners of the homestead are based in South Africa.

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said they had not received a report on the case.
