Pasuwa takes up Malawi national team job

Sport
Former Dynamos and Warriors coach, Kalisto Pasuwa has been appointed the Malawi national Under-23 team coach ahead of the Cosafa Cup.

Former Dynamos and Warriors coach, Kalisto Pasuwa has been appointed the Malawi national Under-23 team coach ahead of the Cosafa Cup.

The Nyasa Bullets, four time title winning coach in Malawi, will lead the team at the regional tournament since the senior team will be engaged in the World Cup qualifiers.

Malawi newspaper Daily Nation reported in Wednesday of Pasuwa's appointment.

Pasuwa passed on an opportunity to apply for the Warriors coaching job when it was advertised by Zifa recently.

He took the Warriors to the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon in 2017.

Before that he won four leagues titles on the trot with Dynamos.

There have been loud calls for the former Dynamos midfielder to return as Warriors coach but he prefers to stay put in Malawi.

There has been a lot of controversy in the national team with the Zifa normalisation committee struggling to appoint a substantive coach for the team.

Portuguese, Baltemar Brito led the team on an interim basis for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Nigeria, before Norman Mapeza presided over the team in the second capacity in an invitational tournament earlier this year.

Manica Diamonds coach Jairos Tapera will mentor the Warriors in the World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa next month.
