RIVAL gangs from different high schools in Bulawayo have turned a portion of Egodini terminus into a wrestling ring where they fight to settle their scores.
Magwegwe North rank marshal, Nkosi Khumalo, said they are forced to break up fights between rival school gangs every week.
“Unfortunately, the law doesn’t allow us to discipline these students,” Khumalo said.
“Just recently, one of the learners produced an axe during a fight...the question is how does a student leave home and go to school with an axe?."
Provincial acting police spokesperson, assistant inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said police were conducting awareness campaigns against school related gang violence.
“Therefore, we are also saying let’s talk with one voice transporters, education sector, the police and everyone against this violence involving learners,” she said.
“Parents must advise your children to go straight home from school. They are also causing unnecessary congestion in town. “
