BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) has approved 151 building plans valued at over US$3,4 million in January, a decrease by 8,43% compared to the previous month.
This was revealed in the latest full council minutes in the building control section statistical report where housing and community services director Dictor Khumalo also reported that 132 building plans were referred for correction.
“There was a decrease of 8,48% on approved plans compared to the total approved in December 2023. A total of 184 building plans with a value of US$3 503 285 were submitted in January 2024, an increase of 11,52% compared to last month’s figure,” the minutes read.
“A total of 2 939 inspections were carried out in January 2024 constituting an increase of 5,99% when compared to the previous month total. There were 50 public buildings where annual inspections were carried out for the purposes of public building certificates as per the Bulawayo Buildings, Roads and Street By-Laws Section 249.”
The local authority also noted that a major milestone was also attained at Egodini project as it was issued with an occupation certificate for 400 vending bays, terminus sheds and an ablution block.
“However, challenges affecting the section which were mainly transport and inadequate staff levels remain unaddressed as previously reported,” the minutes read.
BCC recently opened Egodini terminus despite concerns that the space provided is small leading to commuter omnibuses sometimes occupying road nearby.
