‘Overcome negative mindset, tap into Zim’s vast resources

ZIMBABWEANS have to overcome a negative mindset and tap into the country’s vast resources and opportunities, Forty Investments chief executive Clemence Kunzekweguta has said.

ZIMBABWEANS have to overcome a negative mindset and tap into the country’s vast resources and opportunities, Forty Investments chief executive Clemence Kunzekweguta has said.

Speaking at the Zimbabwe Institute Management (ZIM) awards ceremony recently, Kunzekweguta argued that Zimbabweans' major challenge lies in lack of confidence in their own economy and country.

He said Zimbabweans had been sold a dummy to think negatively about themselves and their country.

“This is a psychological racket designed to control people, making them fearful, subservient and afraid, thereby keeping them in poverty,” Kunzekweguta said.

“We are a rich people, blessed, endowed with intellect and a great deal of natural resources.

“The challenges we face are universal and just need a strategic approach to manoeuvre.”

He emphasised the importance of adopting a dynamic capabilities view (DCV) framework, which offers a pathway to resilience and renewal in today's fast-changing global economy.

“In order to create wealth and be rich in all circumstances, we need to look at the DCV — a powerful strategic framework that enables organisations to thrive in precisely the kind of environment we are in,” Kunzekweguta said.

He called on Zimbabwean leaders to think differently and adopt innovative strategies to drive growth and development.

“As the nation continues to navigate the complexities of the global economy, it is imperative that its leaders embrace new approaches and technologies to stay ahead of the curve,” he said.

“The leaders we celebrate this evening are already doing this — they are not only adapting, they are leading the change.”

Meanwhile, ZIM president Remigio Chingara has said leadership and management are constantly evolving, with technology, especially artificial intelligence, redefining management practice.

“We must embrace these tools not as threats, but as catalysts, enablers that support sharper decision-making, greater efficiency and inclusive growth,” he said.

Chingara said the awards, which recognise exceptional leadership capabilities, innovation and commitment to excellence, are a testament to the country’s growing recognition of the importance of leadership and innovation.

“The awards are conferred upon individuals and institutions who have demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities, innovation, ethical standards and a relentless commitment to excellence,” he said.

“They are a celebration of impact recognising those who have not only led, but inspired, empowered, and transformed.”
