Model and video vixen Tariro Gezi last Thursday torched a social media storm after she implied in a post on Facebook that “marriage should not be a priority for ladies”.
The post ignited debate on Gezi's Facebook page prompting thousands of people to share their opinions.
In 24 hours, 8 500 people had reacted to the post while several online media outlets shared the post.
Gezi had posted: “To all my girls stay away from marriage if you don't have money, you will cry! make yourself a rich aunt and make the rules in your own life!”
“Izvi zvevanhu vanozotanga kuti l will never leave my marriage muchigarira masofa izvi kaa! Please respect yourself and your mother!”
While it serves as advice to “girls”, critics argue that the model’s post oversimplifies the multifaceted issues around marriage.
“Tarie, I totally agree that financial independence is important. It’s empowering to build your own life and set boundaries. But also, with the right partner, marriage can be a supportive partnership where you grow and build together,” posted Annishah Kore.
Gram Pandiwa posted: “Bad advice, it's good to empower yourself yes, but marriage is a blessing from above its worth never fades.”

After noticing a barrage of attacks, Gezi posted in the comment section: “This message is to girls who aren’t married yet, empowerment is everything! Those already married, this message is not for you!”
Another socialite Jack Ngirande in a separate post, but in what looked like a reaction to the trending Gezi's post said: “Marriage is not a business fuelled by money, it’s a union fuelled by love, loyalty, trust, respect, prayers and commitment.”
Lately, Gezi has turned out to be a life coach who helps clients through social media to develop important skills, set goals and change their lives.
