PREMIERSHIP outfit Manica Diamonds chairperson Masimba Chihowa, who is contesting for the Premier Soccer League chairperson position, has said he will operate the league as a business entity and help to secure more sponsorships.
Four candidates Dumisani Sisale of FC Platinum, Leonard Musariri of Ngezi Platinum Stars, Isaiah Mupfurutsa of Simba Bhora and Chihowa have been confirmed as contestants for the post of PSL chairman.
The contestants and PSL governors who vote will gather in the capital on July 25 to replace Farai Jere, who left office to contest for the Zifa presidency.
Chihowa yesterday expressed confidence that he was going to win the election.
“I am confident that I am going to win the election because the general support I am receiving from the Premier Soccer League governors is great. To the league and Zifa, I have a lot to offer in terms of technical expertise and football administration knowledge,” Chihowa said
“In football administration, I have been involved in the referees committee. I have also worked in junior football, schools’ football and I have worked as a football administrator as chairman for Manica Diamonds,” he said.
“I have been in the Premier Soccer League emergency committee. I am the longest serving member in the PSL emergency committee.”
Chihowa said he had been at the helm of Manica Diamonds for eight years, adding that if he lands the PSL chairperson post, he would make sure that clubs abide according to the dictates of club licensing rules.

Chihowa also addressed the current topical issue in the Zimbabwean football, where refereeing has hogged the limelight, which has seen some Premier League games ending prematurely.
A former Fifa and Caf referee, Chihowa is viewed as a steady hand and seasoned executive with a passion for order, compliance and structure.
“I will work very hard to address misdemeanours that are happening between our games and our referees. I will use the experience that I have in refereeing. I will help to correct what is happening now,” he said.
“I will also work flat out to assist the Premier Soccer League as a business entity and increase their asset base and we will work very hard to get sponsorships and improve on the aspect of sponsorships.”
Added Chihowa: “For Zifa, I am the technical man they have been missing in the entire body. If you check on the entire body, there are good governors who are there, but I don’t know if there is anyone who can match me on the issue of technical expertise.”
He said there is need to improve the welfare of workers both at PSL and Zifa.
