THE Zifa Normalisation Committee has appointed Zimbabwe Saints legend and Botswana-based Jethro Hunidzarira as the new technical director, with a public announcement set to be made at a Press conference this afternoon.
He is replacing Wilson Mutekede who was released by the association late last year.
Hunidzarira who has previously occupied different roles, including coaching Botswana league teams, is expected to start work immediately.
The length of his contract will be announced at the Press briefing, although it is expected to run concurrently with that of the Normalisation Committee.
The committee’s tenure expires in June, but the Lincoln Mutasa-led grouping is pushing for it to be extended by another year.
Mutasa recently admitted that they are lagging in fulfilling their mandate's term of reference.
The Normalisation Committee advertised the vacant post in early December last year, which attracted a number of candidates including Paul Smalley, Backlyfield Chiwenga, Bongani Mafu, Cornalious Piroro and Dynamos assistant coach Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe. It is understood that Hunidzarira impressed during interviews to land the top job.
The former Zimbabwe Saints player holds a CAF A license, which he obtained last year.

In his role, Hunidzarira will, among other things, be responsible for developing, and implementing a clear and thorough technical development plan with a chart aimed at continually promoting and improving the game of football in Zimbabwe at all levels from grassroots to elite football including youth football, women's football. He will also advise Zifa on all matters related to the effective development of football in Zimbabwe and be accountable for the development of strategy and policy for performance of football programmes.
Hunidzarira is expected to put in place clear systems and processes for identifying and developing talented players as well as define and disseminate a national football philosophy.
Another key role for him will be training and development of coaches including design and updating of coaches manuals, facilitating licensing courses, developing a coach’s code of conduct, arrange for exert and specialist coaches to deliver training clinics, education on the rules of the game and creating and maintaining a database and a library of resources including books and articles which the coaches can access.
