POLICE in Silobela, Midlands province, have arrested five men in connection with two murder cases that occurred at drinking spots between May 12 and 15.

POLICE in Silobela, Midlands province, have arrested five men in connection with two murder cases that occurred at drinking spots between May 12 and 15.

Police provincial spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the two murder cases occurred in Silobela under Chief Malisa’s area, where a 67-year-old man died on the spot after being stabbed with a knife and a 27-year-old man died at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo after he was attacked with knobkerries.

“On May 15 at around 5:30pm, Ernest Machisa (67), of Gwetu Village, Chief Malisa, was drinking beer in the company of a friend at Gwetu business centre,” Mahoko said.

“The suspects, Petro Ndini (27), Kwanele Ndini (24), Thulani Sibanda (23) and Michael Ngwenya (20) all of Gwetu Village, were also patrons at the same business centre.”

Mahoko said the next morning, Machisa was found dead with some stab wounds all over his body.

“The matter was reported to Silobela police and investigations led to the arrest of the four suspects,” he said.

Mahoko said in a separate case which occurred on May 12 at around night time, Nkulumo Nyathi (27) of Village Majongosi under Chief Malisa, was drinking beer at Dhlamini Tavern in Silobela when he had a misunderstanding with Sipho Maseko (33).

He said Thembani Landu and Lovemore Talika Mhlanga, both aged 21 and Majongosi Village under Chief Malisa, joined in the fracas, attacked Nyathi with a knobkerrie, log and bricks before they fled.

“A report was made at ZRP Silobela. Nkulumo died on May 15 at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo. Police arrested Maseko and Landu, while Mhlanga is on the run.”

Mahoko appealed for anyone who might have knowledge of Mhlanga’s whereabouts to contact the police.
