Masvingo man fatally assaults friend

Police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi,

A 38-year-old man from Masvingo allegedly fatally assaulted his friend after suspecting him of proposing love to his wife.

Police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi, said the suspect, Joseph Dimiti, was in custody in connection with a murder case that took place on February 17 at Machakata village, Soti-Source, Gutu.

“The suspect allegedly attacked his friend, Richard Takawira (35) with a hoe all over the body after accusing him of proposing love to his wife,” Nyathi said.

The victim died upon admission at a hospital in Gutu and a police report was made leading to his arrest.

Nyathi said police were concerned with the rising number of murder cases driven by domestic disputes.

“Members of the public are urged to respect the sanctity of life and resolve disputes amicably without resorting to violence,” he said.

“Where possible, parties should seek counselling from traditional leaders, the church and elders from the community.”
