NATIONAL University of Science and Technology (Nust) FM has launched a segment called Artistic Expressions, which is aimed at promoting up-and-coming artistes in Bulawayo.
Nust third year student studying towards a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Journalism and Media Studies, Annah Thandeka Maseko, is the host.
“The aim of my new segment is to provide a platform for local artists to express themselves,” Maseko told Southern Eye.
“I saw that there was a need for artists to express themselves hence I created this platform.”
Several artistes have criticised the local airwaves for not giving their music airplay, which they view as a major impediment to furthering their music careers.
Some artistes in the city allege that they are marginalised.
“I would like to see these artists being able to tell their stories by articulating their journeys within their respective fields of art,” Maseko added.
“This is also a way of uplifting these artists by making people know more about them therefore creating a greater understanding of their works.”
