A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Famona, Inyathi, who could not fathom losing a fistfight over an unknown misunderstanding, is in soup after trying to set his neighbour’s bedroom on fire.
Nqobile Nkomo was last week dragged before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza to answer to a charge of attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to January 24 this year.
In his defence, Nkomo told the court that Oscar Ncube (27) bribed him with some money not to disclose to police what caused the fight.
The court heard that the two had a fight last year at Inyathi business centre over an undisclosed misunderstanding which left Nkomo injured.
It is alleged that Nkomo wanted to strike Ncube with a log, but he was overpowered.
The court heard that a few days later, Ncube apologised before giving Nkomo some money promising to take him to the clinic.
It was further revealed that this did not go down well with Nkomo resulting in him trying to set Ncube’s bedroom on fire, while he was asleep with his wife.
Ncube doused the fire and discovered a diesel filter in his house.

The following day, Nkomo apologised to Ncube and admitted committing the offence.
