CONTINUOUS repairs to the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) water reticulation system are affecting water supply to the city, the local authority has said.
In a statement yesterday, Bulawayo town clerk Christopher Dube acknowledged that BCC was facing water supply challenges due to old infrastructure which has led to erratic water supplies.
He said the repairs on the Umzingwane Raw Water pipeline at uMzinyathi were completed on March 27 this year.
“The Sulzer raw water pump repairs are still outstanding. Currently the city is working on mobilising materials which are essential for conducting the repairs on the Sulzer raw water pump,” Dube said.
“The Sulzer raw water pump failure adversely affects the pumping capacity and ultimate raw water delivery to the city at Criterion, Burnside, as daily delivery is reduced by 48 ML/day.
“Currently one pump-set has been running delivering about 56 ML/day. In summary the city is pumping at half capacity in terms of raw water delivery.”
Dube said residents in residential, Industrial and the central business district areas would continue experiencing erratic supplies until restoration of service.
