Chas Everitt International officially launches in Zimbabwe

Barry Davies, chief operating officer of Chas Everitt International

SOUTH Africa’s premier estate agency, Chas Everitt International Property Group, officially launched its operations in Zimbabwe on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s real estate sector.

The event, attended by key government officials and industry stakeholders, highlighted the firm’s confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic recovery and the vast potential of its property market.

Barry Davies, chief operating officer of Chas Everitt International, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, “As a group, we believe we contribute significantly to the growth of the property sector and the broader economy, and we are excited to bring our passion, expertise, and learnings to the market in Zimbabwe.”

He emphasised that the decision to enter Zimbabwe reflects the country’s steady economic progress, particularly in agriculture, finance, and tourism.

“I have been hearing nothing but fantastic things about what’s happening under the falls,” Davies remarked, alluding to the positive developments in Victoria Falls and beyond.

Davies noted the growing influence of diaspora investment in Zimbabwe’s property market, which has spurred government policy reforms and infrastructure upgrades.

"We have created a property market that is much bigger than people realise, and it’s attracting affluent buyers from the diaspora and investors from around the world,” he said.

Despite challenges such as currency instability and regulatory uncertainties, Davies remained optimistic, projecting the sector’s value to rise from US$85 billion this year to US$104 billion by 2030.

“Our entry is not just a business expansion but a vote of confidence in Zimbabwe’s future,” he declared.

Vimbai Nyemba, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, who was the guest speaker, hailed Chas Everitt’s arrival as a testament to Zimbabwe’s improving business climate.

“The presence of Chas Everitt in Zimbabwe’s property market is a robust endorsement of our unwavering commitment to creating a business environment that prioritises economic growth and resilience,” she said.

Nyemba stressed that real estate is more than just buildings—it is about community development, job creation, and affordable housing.

“Chas Everitt’s entry adds value by bringing global expertise, fostering competition, and introducing innovative property solutions,” she added, aligning the company’s goals with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 ambitions.

Nyemba also highlighted the importance of foreign direct investment in boosting liquidity and employment.

“The foreign currency inflows from their initiatives will enhance liquidity in the real estate market, significantly contributing to the sector’s development,” she said.

However, she urged strict adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks, warning against malpractice.

"Transparency and accountability must be deeply embedded in the company’s operations to reinforce market trust,” Nyemba asserted, calling for stronger public-private partnerships to address housing shortages and urbanisation challenges.

Trevor Jakachira, CEO of Chas Everitt Zimbabwe, pledged to uphold the company’s global reputation for excellence.

“We are committed to bringing global standards to our customers in Zimbabwe and promise to serve them with the same excellence, professionalism, and integrity they expect from our brand,” he said.

Jakachira outlined plans to leverage the firm’s international networks to connect Zimbabwean property developers with regional and global investors.

“Our unwavering vision is to set new benchmarks in the sector, positioning ourselves as the premier provider and trusted partner in progress,” he affirmed.

The launch signals a new era for Zimbabwe’s real estate industry, combining local demand with international expertise.

Founded in 1980, Chas Everitt operates in multiple African countries, including Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya.
