Kombi veers of road, kills Sobukazi High student

Local
Bulawayo provincial education director Benard Mazambane said the education sector was saddened by the loss of the pupil at the school.

A SPEEDING commuter omnibus yesterday veered off the road along City-Luveve Road close to MaChipsini in Bulawayo and killed a Sobukazi High Student after the driver lost control.

Another student was injured.

“The driver was speeding, which led the vehicle to veer off the road, hitting two students who were on their way to school this morning,” a witness, Cornelius Nyatsanga, said.

He said one of the students died on spot and the other was injured.

“After hitting the students, the driver tried to run away, but was blocked by the residents,” he said.

Bulawayo provincial education director Benard Mazambane said the education sector was saddened by the loss of the pupil at the school.

“It is very sad as we have lost a student due to an accident. A Form 3 student died on spot, while another one who is in Form 6 was taken to Mpilo Hospital,” he said.

Deputy mayor Edwin Ndlovu, who is ward 8 councillor in which the school falls under, said it was painful to lose life to negligent driving.

“We encourage motorists to desist from boarding unregistered commuters as they always fail to abide by the road laws, which leads to loss of lives,” he said.
