BUSINESS tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei’s Bridging Gaps Foundation (BGF), in partnership with the Seventh Day Adventist Church, is working on a project aimed at transforming the rural Mutoko district through sinking three solar-powered boreholes and installing a 6.2KV solar system at Kushinga Clinic in Mashonaland East.
The boreholes will benefit Kushinga Clinic, Kushinga primary and secondary schools, with a Seventh Day Adventist church set to be constructed within the area in two months.
The handing-over ceremony was preceded by a health outreach programme which benefited almost 500 people as BGF, through Arundel Hospital, dispatched health personnel to assist underprivileged members of the community.
Mutoko district ward 26 councillor Brighton Muvirimi applauded the BGF’s programmes, adding that the medical outreach came at the right time for the underprivileged people who cannot afford to access quality medical care.
BGF is the brainchild of Tagwirei and his wife, Sandra.
Medical staff at Kushinga Clinic and villagers said the donation of a 6.2KV solar system and borehole brought relief to the institution, which improvised during power outages.
BGF chief executive Mberikwazvo Chitambo said his team would remain on the ground for the next two weeks addressing community needs in Mutoko.
“For the last two days, we attended to 492 patients in the area as we brought doctors and nurses to Kushinga. This Sunday, a mobile clinic will be in the community to cater for those who did not get a chance on Thursday and Friday,” he said.

Seventh Day East Conference Union president Godfrey Musara also hailed the gesture aimed at empowering communities by availing free medical attention, sinking boreholes and provision of solar systems.
Tagwirei said the three boreholes for the health centre and schools would benefit the community to undertake income-generating projects.
“We were sent here by Seventh Day Adventist — City Centre Church and I also represent Bridging Gaps Foundation to preach the gospel, but we also try to empower communities.
“We have installed the 6.2 KV solar systems for the health centre and donated additional beds maize meal, sugar beans, salt and cooking oil for patients, among others.
These boreholes must be used by everyone and when we come back, we must see thriving horticultural projects for communities. We got a stand where we are going to build a state-of-the-art church in the community to spread the word of God.”
Among the donated goods include 15 tonnes of maize meal, 3 000 litres of cooking oil and sugar beans, among other items.
