A DZIVARASEKWA man has been sentenced to 30 years in jail for allegedly raping his stepdaughter aged 13.

A DZIVARASEKWA man has been sentenced to 30 years in jail for allegedly raping his stepdaughter aged 13.

After a full trial, Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi ruled that there was overwhelming evidence against the convict.

Rwodzi said the State managed to provide evidence including medical affidavits proving the abuse.

State prosecutor Cecilia Mashingaidze told the court that sometime in May 2023, the convict asked the child to accompany him to Dzivarasekwa 3 shops to buy potatoes but he suddenly diverted route to Nhamburiko grounds.

Upon arrival at Nhamburiko grounds, the convict tripped her to the ground and he forced himself on the minor without protection.

After the act, the convict threatened the girl not reveal the abuse.

On a different count which occurred on  May 14, 2023, the convict was in his bedroom where he asked the girl to  come and collect plates.

Upon entering the bedroom, the convict pulled the girl to the bed and raped her.

The minor's grandmother who is deaf saw the victim coming out of the bedroom crying. She alerted the child’s aunt.

The victim told her aunt about the abuse and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the stepfather.
