SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi has already made his entrance, but anticipation is building up for the arrival of the SADC leaders

The stage is set at the New Parliament building in Mt Hampden, Harare, where Southern African Development Community (SADC) leaders are expected to gather to discuss pressing issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with hopes to find lasting solutions.

The atmosphere is currently low-key, with high-profile guests yet to arrive.

SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi has already made his entrance, but anticipation is building up for the arrival of the SADC leaders.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the SADC chairperson, is expected to give the Welcome Remarks to  officially kick off the summit.

 

14:45: President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived at the venue. Other SADC leaders are expected to arrive subsequently.

 

14:50: Delegates from Malawi and South Africa have arrived with commencement of the summit expected soon.

Mozambique President Daniel Chapo, along with Botswana’s leader Duma Boko. Speculations are rife over which Presidents will attend the emergency summit.

     

15:15: Botswana president Duma Boko has arrived.

15:38: Arrival of South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa for the summit.

15:50: Madagascar's President Andry Nirina Rajoelina arrives for the summit. 

16:00: Hichilema snubs SADC extraordinary summit

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has once again snubbed the SADC Etra-Ordinary Summit in Harare as he is expected to travel to Japan for an official working visit from February 3 to 7.

Hichilema has never attended an official function in Zimbabwe since his ascent to power.
