Kaykid Umfanomsotho lives up to billing at awards

Kaykid Umfanomsotho

SINGER Kaykid Umfanomsotho left a lasting impression at the Bulawayo Business Awards (BBA) ceremony on Saturday, with a captivating performance, which not only earned him a cash reward but also proved to be a lucrative gig despite his initial intention to perform for free.

After the performance, Bulawayo  Provincial Affairs minister Judith Ncube, Industry and Commerce deputy minister Raj Modi and Local Governance and Public Works deputy minister Albert Mavhunga awarded him with a cash prize.

Kaykid also got an assurance from Mavhunga that he would forward the artiste’s name for consideration at events.

“As I am standing here, wowed by his performance,  I make this promise that if there is any prestigious event like this one happening, I will definitely give his name to the organisers for entertainment,” Mavunga said.

Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style on the sidelines, Kaykid expressed his gratitude and excitement for the reception he got.

"When I arrived here, I was only coming to perform for free. But the way things turned out really shocked me because I was not even sure if people were going to vibe to my music," he said.

"I am really grateful for  the reward and opportunity that the minister promised me. It shows even performing without expecting anything in return can be a real blessing to one's life."

Kaykid is an Afropop singer who recently released his song Amawala, which has been on top of the radio charts for many weeks.

His other songs include Ngimtholile ft Fab_G Mshanakagogo, Shona Malanga ft B.L.U.E Nyambose from Durban in South Africa, Lengoma, Ubambo lwam and Ngyavuma ft Zhezhingtons.

He has also released the Ehlathini Live sessions, a compilation of his songs, which were shot in the bush as his genre allows him to be in such places.
