LOSING a husband in tragic circumstances inspired Dubai-based Zimbabwean lawyer and speaker, Tariro Matibiri, to pen an inspirational book designed to offer hope to people battling the dark seasons of life.
That Audacious Hope: A Daily Devotional is designed to provide strength and hope to individuals recovering from loss, while the main book, That Audacious Hope: The Journey, documents Matibiri’s experiences following her husband, Tawanda’s hospitalisation and subsequent death.
Tawanda Matibiri was involved in a hit-and-run automobile accident on January 16, 2023 and passed away on September 4 the same year after eight months in the intensive care unit.
“We are often told that we learn from experience: if not our own, then that of others. Through my own crushing, the devotional allowed me to then put on paper what I struggled to say out loud,” Matibiri said.
“As I walked through one of the toughest seasons of my life as a young wife and mother, I began to come across several people who were facing similar battles.
“Both the main book and the devotional became my way of helping others walk in audacious hope especially in the face of a seemingly overwhelming storm.”
Matibiri, who is also an intellectual property expert, told NewsDay Life & Style that the devotional and the main book were a reflection of the resilience required to navigate one’s way through adversity.
She said she found healing through writing as putting her experiences into words “helped me unpack my thoughts and emotions” and she could look back at the journey she had travelled and find the courage and hope to face the next challenges.

“There is quite a lot that I would like the readers to take with them by the time they get to the end of the book,” the Toastmasters International member said.
“I pray that this book will be a powerful reminder to everyone that our hope should never be drawn from our circumstances or people but from God Himself.
“It is something deep and enduring, rooted in faith and sustained by God’s presence.”
Of all her five books, Matibiri said the latest publications had “drawn more tears out of me”, although each piece felt like a search for her voice and life purpose as a writer.
“In the Audacious books, I poured more than just my heart,” she said.
“By reliving each moment of my storms, each book helped me heal, preserve memories and serve as a signpost for me to always remember the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
