SINGER Agga Nyabinde and his Afro-fusion outfit the 2 Nice Band are now known for performing music continuously for close to four hours without notable breaks.
The musician serenaded diners on Valentine’s Day on Friday last week and the following day, leading the 2 Nice Band in two consecutive inspirational acts as they celebrated their birthdays while sharing love and affection at the Cresta Oasis Hotel and the Gava Restaurant, respectively.
It was hit after hit like Kufara Kweumwe, Mhanya, Daira, Ndine Chinangwa, Kupururudzirwa, Huchenjeri from his albums Kushanda, Honai and Basa iBasa including several renditions of his late father Bob Nyabinde and the late Oliver Mtukudzi's songs. From the late Bob Nyabinde discography, it was Mhanya Mbiri and Tsika Dzedu, and Mhopo by the Great Oliver Mtukudzi which were very synonymous with the hard work and effort Nyabinde and his crew have put in to perfect their music. The band extended its virtuosity by performing with proficiency the rendition of Simon Chimbetu’s song Samatenga and Steve Makoni’s Zvachonyana.
An energetic Nyabinde shook the audience, pulling them to the dance floor. One such incident was when film producer, Mr JJ, took to the stage at Gava Restaurant and thanked the 2 Nice Band for giving him a memorable experience as he reunited with his family members who are based abroad.
Closely listening to the 2 Nice Band, the audience digested and recalled traditional dances like chinyambera, dinhe and mhande from Zimbabwe, among others and popular melodies from all over Africa. Nyabinde said he was influenced by typical Zimbabwean traditional beats fused with a bit of Afro-jazz, adding that he drew inspiration from his father, Bob, who was an award-winning Afro-jazz artiste. Agga has shared the stage with artistes such as Selmor Mtukudzi, Mbeu and Dereck Mpofu. On several occasions Agga amazed audience as mingled with them while blowing up the Happy Birthday Song on an identified Birthday King or Queen.
“I would like to thank all the 2 Nice Band followers for giving us this overwhelming response and we are looking forward to having more of this in the future,” Agga said.
“I have realised there are lots of good dancers and singers who just sit back and support the Nyabinde Brand. I enjoyed every moment of these two weekend days.
“We are trying to fill in the huge void that was left by the late Bob Nyabinde and by the grace of God we are getting better acceptance and improving each day we are on stage.”
