Chikanyambidze claims Bata Power Open with season’s first win

Chikanyambidze was the only player to finish with a sub-par total, ending the 54-hole tournament at two-under-par 214.

Young golfer Darlington Chikanyambidze clinched the 2025 Bata Power Open at Gweru Golf Club with a spectacular performance, finishing six strokes ahead of the field on Sunday. His final round of seven-under-par 65 was the best of the tournament and sealed his first victory of the season.

Chikanyambidze was the only player to finish with a sub-par total, ending the 54-hole tournament at two-under-par 214.

"I am proud to have won the Bata Power Open," Chikanyambidze told Golf Africa after his win. "Winning such a big tournament is a huge motivation and confidence booster."

He also extended his gratitude to the staff at Gweru Golf Club for the excellent course conditions.

"The course was playing great. I just want to thank Gweru for making the course great, they are doing a good job. See you again next year, thank you Gweru."

Chikanyambidze didn't start the tournament at the top. He opened with a three-over-par 75, which put him four shots behind the first-round leader, Notice Gono, who shot a one-under-par 71. He was tied with Shepard Chiwaya after the first day.

In the second round, Chikanyambidze moved into the lead with a two-over-par 74, giving him a one-stroke advantage over Chiwaya, who shot another 75.

His exceptional final-round 65 solidified his position, leaving no doubt about his victory. Chiwaya finished in second place with a total of four-over-par 220, with round scores of 75, 75, and a final-round 70.

Absolom Phiri and Blessing Gondo tied for third, finishing at 10-over-par 226.
