THE Chantelle Jani Foundation, a social enterprise founded by Chantelle and Cordelia Jani, recently visited the Borrowdale racecourse squatter camp to donate vital supplies, including sanitary pads, toothpaste, and toothbrushes.
The donation aims to improve the health and dignity of the camp's residents, particularly women and girls.
In an interview one of the foundation's founder Chantelle said they were moved to action by the stark contrast between the affluent neighborhoods and the squatter camps in their community.
"We noticed that there is a social disparity. You have all of the beautiful houses and then in between we have squatters.
“So we felt the need and the call to basically create this foundation to uplift other women, men and children,” she said.
Another founder Cordelia said the foundation's efforts are focused on addressing period poverty, a pressing issue that affects many girls and women in the African region.
“We noticed that there was a hindrance where women were not doing their normal chores or going to school because they did not have the proper sanitary wear,”
“We are going to be donating many more stuff according to their needs. We're going to be donating medical stuff as well, as well as things that they need as of right now. Food, clothes, medical assistance. And anywhere where their grievances are,” she said.

According to statistics, three girls suffer from lack of access to sanitary pads, leading to absenteeism from school and hindering their socio-economic development.
In the future, the foundation The Chantelle Jani aims to house the squatter camp residents in proper facilities or structures and buildings. To achieve this, they plan to host fundraising events and partner with organisations and individuals who share their vision.
