A Chitungwiza man was caught at the Robert Gabriel International Airport with five rhino parts.

Cuthbert Maoko (34) was remanded in custody to December 6 for routine remand.

He was later advised to approach the High Court for bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate  Sheunesu Matova .

Prosecutors alleged that on September 12 this year, Maoko, who is a clearing agent at  Robert Gabriel International Airport, proceeded to the Airport 7 Aviation Services holding a 13kg owl hardened plastic sculptor.

The court heard that Maoko intended to facilitate the shipment to China by processing fake export papers.

The court heard that Maoko was intercepted for a physical examination.

He allegedly failed to give a proper explanation on the contents of the sculpture, and later implicated his accomplice Lin Wang.

It is alleged that inside the hardened plastic sculptor were five rhino horn pieces wrapped in a newspaper and a transparent plastic.

Maoko failed to produce any document or permit for rhino horn pieces leading to his arrest.
