Toddler found dead, dad missing

Mahoko said, however, what initially appeared to be a concerned father soothing his sick child quickly spiralled into horror.

A DARK cloud hangs over Musvuti Village under Chief Marambo in Charandura, Midlands  Province, after a two-year-old boy was found dead in a gully, while his father is missing.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident and said the tragic incident occurred on the night of June 17 this year.

The deceased child, identified as Tanatswa Marinda (2), had reportedly been unwell before he died.

"Tatenda Marinda (25), father of the deceased, took him out of their bedroom. Marinda's wife, who had already retired to bed, assumed he had taken the boy out to comfort him,” Mahoko said.

Mahoko said, however, what initially appeared to be a concerned father soothing his sick child quickly spiralled into horror.

"The next morning, Tatenda’s wife woke up to discover her husband and son missing. A frantic search was launched by family members and fellow villagers. The grim discovery came hours later when  Tanatswa’s lifeless body was found dumped in a gully not far from their homestead. The boy's father, however, was nowhere to be seen,” Mahoko said.

Mahoko said police have since launched a manhunt for Tatenda, who is now the prime suspect in the suspected murder of his son.

“The child was found dead under suspicious circumstances, and we are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the whereabouts of the father, who is currently on the run,” Mahoko said.
