NINE passengers escaped death when a Sekure Ndife Bus Service coach overturned along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on the 276km peg on Monday.
The driver allegedly fled from the scene.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Chiratidzo Dube said the bus, with 20 passengers on board, was heading east towards Lutumba business centre.
“The driver, identified as Makkhahuhle Dube, attempted to overtake two vehicles that were towing each other at a bridge. He used the left side of the road, misjudged the manoeuvre and rammed onto concrete pillars,” Dube said.
She said the impact dismantled four pillars of the bridge.
Dube said the injured were rushed to Beitbridge District Hospital.
"The driver could not be located as he escaped after the accident," she said.
Dube appealed to members of the public with information on the driver’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.
