AT just 21 years old, Ace Willx is already making waves on the Zimbabwean Afro-pop scene.
In his latest single, Tawanda, Ace Willx, born Philip Williams, teams up with Lily Dream $ and Mandis Vash to tell a story that’s all too familiar in the world of young love, suspicion, betrayal and emotional confusion.
Speaking to NewsDay Life & Style, Ace Willx said: “Tawanda is a track that speaks volumes. The title, a Shona word meaning ‘we are many’, sets the tone for a narrative rooted in emotional disarray.
“Unlike typical heartbreak songs, Tawanda captures a very specific moment in a relationship: the gut feeling that your partner may be cheating. But the twist? She was playing friends.”
Ace Willx said with a blend of soulful melodies and smooth rhythms, the single reflected a signature Afro-pop sound, which was emotional and relatable.
“Despite being relatively new to the music scene, the lyrical maturity shines through, resonating with anyone who’s ever faced the confusion of a one-sided relationship,” he said.
Ace Willx said music was not just a hobby, but therapy.
“Singing is more like therapy for me. It helps me to bond with people, since I’m not that social,” he said.
“My vulnerability, both in song and in conversation, is what sets me apart from many of my peers.
“Through Tawanda, I invite listeners not just to vibe, but to feel, reflect and connect.”
