FABG Foundation to host ‘Art Unplugged’ session for Bulawayo artists

FABG, a local organisation that supports women through entrepreneurial training and offering mental health services, is spearheading the event

THE For A Black Girl (FABG) Foundation is set to host the Art Unplugged session on August 26 at the Bulawayo Publicity Association, offering a platform for emerging and established artists to showcase their work while gaining entrepreneurial skills.

FABG, a local organisation that supports women through entrepreneurial training and offering mental health services, is spearheading the event in partnership with Lefthand Animation and Abenhla Digital.

“The main purpose of the show is to give both recognised and unrecognised art brands the platform to display and talk about their work,” FABG Foundation founder and director Nonsikelelo Moyo told NewsDay Life & Style.

The event will feature exhibitions across various art sectors, branding opportunities and business-focused presentations aimed at empowering creatives to build sustainable careers.

“This initiative will give artists the opportunity to get their work out there for exposure and marketing purposes,” Moyo added.

“We will also have lessons on business in the arts sector, so this will help them in running and growing their businesses.”

Moyo said the session would bring together some of the country’s top creatives, making it a potential game-changer in Bulawayo’s arts landscape.

FABG's vision is to contribute to reducing the number of unemployed women in the country and Africa as a whole, increasing the number of successful female-owned businesses and lowering the suicide rate among women through mental health support.

To achieve this, the organisation provides training, mentorship and support to young women, enabling them to launch successful businesses and achieve economic independence.

The organisation has made significant strides, which has seen it being nominated for Best Women Empowerment Organisation at the Entrepreneurship & Business Awards in 2024 and launching a monthly mental health programme, Tea & Talk.

It has also partnered other NGOs and youth-based companies to implement various female empowerment programmes, including campaigns against drug abuse and undertaking digital skills training programmes.
