THE Rotary Club of Belmont under the seven areas, embarked on a mission to roll out projects aimed at addressing challenges affecting vulnerable groups in Matabeleland region.
The project director, Victoria Mungwena, told Southern Eye that they have set up homes for expectant mothers in areas such as Esigodini and Sigola.
“This project was inspired by the high mortality rate in child births, so Rotary Club of Belmont, in partnership with the Rotary Foundation, have embarked on this initiative to construct a mother's shelter,” Mungwena said.
“Another initiative being undertaken by the club is a water kiosk project in partnership with the Bulawayo City Council to bring clean and safe water to high-density communities.”
Mungwena added that this project is in partnership with local business entities such as Forrester Irrigation and Pro Plastics, among other corporate sponsors.
“Polio is one of Rotary International's longest-standing service projects with a rate of success worldwide,” Mungwena said.
The five Rotary clubs in Bulawayo are Rotary Club of Belmont, Rotary Club of Bulawayo, Rotary Club of Sunrise, Rotary Club of Matopos and Rotary Club of Bulawayo South, which complement each other's efforts in serving the communities.
