Unique Gear Fashions (UGF), a local fashion house, which sells a range of clothes and also provides image consultancy to individuals, corporates and celebrities is celebrating a decade of excellence in the fashion industry since inception in 2015.
Founded by marketing professional Anyway Masunda who started off selling from car boots before formalising operations, the company has grown from humble beginnings and the future looks even brighter in spite of the usual operational challenges.
“Unique Gear Fashions was born out of a desire to bring the best out of people through appropriate, tailored and classy clothing and I am happy that we have not looked back since we started operations in 2015.
“From selling our wares in car boots to becoming a formalised fashion brand working with individuals, professional companies and celebrities, we have remained consistent and we are proud of the market presence and confidence that we enjoy. It’s a remarkable ten years of excellence and we are geared for bigger things to come,” she said.
A mother, wife and passionate community builder, Masunda told Standard Style that she is big on taste and classy and is proud that the UGF brand has become synonymous with quality clothes and image building of the highest degree.
“I am very particular and about my client’s look and this explains why UGF has blossomed into this leading fashion house that provides both personal and corporate clothing for clients drawn from various sectors of the economy,” he said.
“We sell clothing apparel of high quality and tailored to the lifestyle of the client. We also make sure that we give attention to detail where choice of clothes of the client is concerned. From skin tone to complexion and through to nature of event and profession, we are hands on and very particular.”
With continued growth and stronger systems, Unique Gear Fashions has also tapped into the competitive world of tenders where it is competing with other industry giants for business.
“We are not just another boutique with an opaque vison and business model. We have become a formalized brand working with respected brands as well as big conglomerates supplying their corporate wear through applying for tenders and effective marketing and brand positioning,” Masunda said.
“We have become a solid and professional brand enjoying unparalleled market confidence and we have also ensured that every job we get becomes a signature opportunity to entrench our position and footprint as a leading fashion house in Zimbabwe,” she said.
While facing the usual operational challenges like any other company in Zimbabwe, Masunda said they have worked on strategies to circumvent environmental limitations.
“We have deliberately invested in tailored business operations that ensure that all our clients enjoy our products without having to break the bank or worrying about liquidity,” she said.
All our products are rightly priced and we have also availed a credit facility for our loyal clients which ensures that they are never found wanting in terms of image expectations whatever the time of the moth and whatever the event. Our loyal clients can always count on us to dress them regardless of the circumstances,” she said.
As a brand that cares; UGF has also contributed to the empowerment of women through partnerships with women led organisations as well as creation of employment.
“We have invested in the empowerment of women through recruiting marginalised women. By that we have contributed to economic growth through employment creation,” Masunda said.
We also work with other women led organisations to promote excellence and productivity among women by way of sharing our story and ensuring that no woman is left behind in the development and empowerment matrix.”
Being an entrepreneur who embodies professionalism and consistency, Masunda said she is proud to be playing a part in economic development and empowerment of locals.
“We have grown from an informal entity to become a formal entity that pays tax and creates employment for locals. All our operations are above board and we value that ideal,” she said.
We have also invested in corporate social responsibility through supporting local musicians and we have also celebrated luminaries like the sungura godfather Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, who we dressed and celebrated on his birthday last year.”
With a perfectly positioned branch in the avenues area of the CBD in Harare, UGF continues to offer the best service possible and Masunda took the occasion of her company’s tenth anniversary to thank all their loyal customers and stakeholders.
“We have come this far because of the invaluable support from our customers and stakeholders who have always believed us from the car boot days through to the small shop we initially opened and now to the spacious and all-encompassing branch we now have in the avenues area in the CBD,” she said.
We just want to take this opportunity to salute everyone who has helped us achieve our dreams over the past year and we hope they continue with us into the next decade until we celebrate our golden jubilee.”
