Lusaka, Zambia — A recent concert at Piazza Arena in East Park Mall, Lusaka, featuring Zimbabwean headliners Freeman, Uncle Epaton, and UK-based Qounfuzed, was marred by disruptive power outages.
Despite a small, but enthusiastic crowd, largely comprised of Zimbabwean students studying in Lusaka, the show faced significant challenges. Qounfuzed kicked off the event with a high-energy performance that quickly captivated the audience. However, just 25 minutes into his set, a sudden power cut plunged the venue into darkness.
The unexpected outage exposed a lack of preparedness on the part of the promoters, who seemingly had no backup power or lighting in place. With no communication from organisers about the status of the show, fans were left in limbo, milling around the venue for an hour in hopes that the performance would resume.
Once power was finally restored, Qounfuzed returned to the stage to complete his set. He was followed by Uncle Epaton, whose performance included several songs known for their controversial lyrics. Finally, Freeman took the stage, performing a mix of older hits and tracks from his latest album, Me vs Me.
While the power cuts undoubtedly disrupted the flow of the concert, they ultimately failed to deter the determined crowd, who remained at the venue throughout the evening.
