Kweseka Band walks road to fame

Kweseka Band from Matabeleland North are winners of the 2024 Chibuku Road to Fame competition

Matabeleland North province Afro-fusion outfit Kweseka Band was yesterday crowned winners of the Chibuku Road to Fame competition.

Boom Jazz, another Afro-fusion group from Mashonaland West province were the first runners-up with Bulawayo’s Music to Music coming in as the second runner-up.

Kweseka Band walked home with US$15 000 plus recording contract, while Boom Jazz and Music to Music received US$10 000 and US$7 000 respectively.

The Chibuku Road to Fame competition began on September 28 in provinces and over the years, the competition has enabled up-and-coming artistes to participate and showcase their musical talent.

This year’s competition was dominated by Afro-fusion groups.

Eight out of the 10 finalists are Afro-fusion groups, with the other two being sungura and gospel outfits.

Freeman HKD, Feli Nandi, Chillspot Family, Master H and 911 Band (the Chibuku Road to Fame 2023 winners were guest performers.
