Food processing firm expands to Bulawayo

Alistar Foods team at the Bulawayo plant

Food processing and distribution company, Alistar Food Industries, has opened a new plant in Bulawayo designed to scale up production of it’s Nutrela Super Roller Meal product range.

The company, which was founded by a couple, Hatina and Alice Ruwuyu, has continued to register steady growth since it started operations in 2017 and the Bulawayo plant is another plus to its market expansion strategies.

CEO Hatina said they were happy to unveil the Nutrela Super Roller Meal Plant with a view to satisfy the market and alleviate hunger especially given the el-nino induced drought.

“We are a multi-award winning and privately owned owned indigenous company whose main business is the production, distribution and sales of food products around Zimbabwe,” Hatina said.

“Our product range covers mealie meal, soya chunks, corn soya blend plus, sugar beans, instant and overnight mahewu, chimera, popcorn and dried kapenta.

“We are happy that we have opened the super roller meal plant in Bulawayo though we were already producing soya chunks at the same premises.

“The new plant will ensure that we have the right capacity to service the entire region and beyond.”

Hatina said their Nutrela Super Roller Meal product would be available for wholesale and retail and packaged according to the needs and demands of the market.

“Our Nutrela Super Roller Meal is available for retail and wholesale with individual clients also able to access the product from the factory shop, retailers and other dealers,” he said.

“The product is available in all sizes and we are happy and excited to unveil this amazing product to the market.

“The pricing is perfect and the quality convincing.

The company has over 100 employees which makes Alistar a flagship that is able to produce and distribute its products across the country.

“Alistar Food Industries has recorded remarkable growth over the years to become one of the best food companies in the country,” Hatina said.

“We have targeted the informal sector with main outlets and buyers in Mbare Musika, Harare’s downtown and all other small towns and cities across Zimbabwe.

“To date, remarkable progress has been made with retailers, wholesalers and other corporate clients across the country.”

The company’s marketing executive Tapiwa Ruwuyu said the quality of their products coupled with a befitting distribution mechanism has made them a market leader enjoying unparalleled market confidence.

“Our distribution mechanism has been of large and bulk volumes, hence it has enjoyed economies of scale,” said Tapiwa.

“Our Alistar Soya Chunks are also available in a number of leading retailers and wholesalers in Zimbabwe.

“We are happy to have added Nutrela super roller meal to the product range and from 2023 onwards, we have deliberately targeted other market giants.”

Alistar Foods will be part of the 2024 edition of Mine Entra at the ZITF grounds in Bulawayo to showcase their products and ensure strategic partnerships with other stakeholders and market players.

“At Alistar Food Industries, we believe we have a role to play towards achieving the best nutrition levels possible for all Zimbabweans,” Tapiwa said.

“We are therefore going to be part of the 2024 edition of Mine Entra as part of our brand positioning drive.

“We endeavour at all times to ensure that our products and services are market relevant and compliant to both local and international standards so that we not only become a brand of choice, but also help promote brand Zimbabwe through espousing excellence in all we do.”

As an indigenous company, Alistar  Foods aspires to support local producers of raw materials that go into the production of their product range so that they also empower them and help support the local economy.

“We believe in the Buy Zimbabwe mantra, but with a deliberate focus on growing our export market so that we bring in the much needed foreign currency,” Tapiwa said.

“Our products are natural and organic so that they promote the health and well-being of our people at the same time retaining that cherished taste that our clients savour.”

Alistar Foods was named the 2022 Family Business of the Year winner by the Institute of Corporate Directors Zimbabwe (ICDZ) while Hatina also got Best Director under the same category.

“We have received a number of awards in appreciation of our efforts and beyond the ICDZ awards in 2022, in 2023 we were also awarded most innovative company by the Zimbabwe CEO’s Network with our CEO getting the platinum award under the best CEO category,” Hatina said.

“We are buoyed by our efforts and growth to date and it is our hope that we continue to provide the best products and services while contributing to a viable local industry and overall economic growth.”
