TWO men from Plumtree allegedly killed a suspected gold thief with machetes, axes and wooden logs.
The suspects Godknows Tshuma (22) and Phumuzani Mkandla (43) appeared before Plumtree magistrate Aline Munamati facing murder charges last week.
They were not asked to plead to the charge, but were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Voster Makuwerere alleged that on March 5, the now deceased Lamwani Mutili and his accomplices illegally entered Botswana and stole 20 kilogrammes of gold ore.
The two suspects armed with machetes, axes and wooden logs pounced on Mutili and his colleagues in the bush when they re-entered Zimbabwe.
Mutili’s accomplices fled, leaving him at the mercy of the two.
The two suspects demanded the ore before fatally assaulting Mutili.
