SPAR Zim Rainbow Run is back

SPAR Zim Rainbow Run

THE SPAR Zimbabwe Rainbow Run 2023 in aid of Childline and Zimbabwe National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ZNSPCA) will be held at Mount Pleasant Sports Club on July 30.

Harare residents are already excited and the response to the event has already been exceptional.

The SPAR Rainbow Run, formerly known as the SPAR Family Fun Run, is an annual event that raises funds for Childline Zimbabwe, a child rights organisation that provides support and counselling to children in need.

This year ZNSPCA has also been included in the charitable recipients of the proceeds.

The rainbow-themed run is a colour run that features a 3,5km run/walk through the grounds of Mount Pleasant Sports Club for all age groups as well as a variety of fun activities for children and families.

Participants can run, walk, ride bicycles, and bring their dogs to this fun, family event, and they can complete the course as many times as they like.

Tickets are US$10 for adults and US$5 for children — online pre-registration will open on July 1.

Those who have pre-registered will be able to make payment and collect their Rainbow Run packs at Childline, ZNSPCA, and selected SPAR stores in the two weeks prior to the event.

Members of the public are also able to register on the day at the event. However, pre-registration is advised to avoid lengthy delays and to ensure that correct T-shirt sizes are available.

“We call upon all our SPAR family – customers, supply partners, staff, and their families to join us on Sunday July 30 to create a rainbow of hope for Childline and ZNSPCA,” said Shamiso Pfumayaramba of SPAR Zimbabwe.

SPAR Zimbabwe’s responsible retailing pillars focus on children, women, prevention of cruelty to animals, protecting the environment and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

Last year's event was a huge success, with over US$37 500 raised for Childline.

SPAR Zimbabwe has a long-standing partnership with Childline through its Community Benefits Scheme.

The scheme supports a range of initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children in Zimbabwe, including education, health, and social welfare programmes.

Speaking at last year’s event, SPAR Zimbabwe's general manager Cypren Borerwe said: "We are proud to support Childline and the important work they do in our community.”

“The Rainbow Run is a fun way for families to come together and support a great cause, and we are thrilled with the turnout and the amount of money raised.

“We are grateful to everyone who took part in the Rainbow Run for their generosity and commitment to our cause.

“The SPAR Rainbow Run is a symbol of hope for Zimbabwe, and the success of this annual event is a testament to the generosity and compassion of the Zimbabwean community.”
