WASHINGTON Navaya scored his 10th goal of the season to help TelOne FC avoid a second straight home defeat as his team drew 1-1 with ZPC Kariba at Ascot stadium yesterday.

As has been the case this season, Navaya was the point of difference for the Wifi Boys, after scoring in the referee's additional time.

The gangly striker headed the ball home, from Gerald Bero’s cross which was fumbled by ZPC Kariba goalkeeper, Tatenda Munditi. While it was their equaliser, Navaya returned to scoring ways after a three-game dry spell.

Moreso, it saved face for the Gweru outfit who lost their last home match 1-0 to FC Platinum.

First, Stanley Ngala scored for Kauya Katuru-turu after 64 minutes.

The electricity men tried to hold on but later failed to survive a late onslaught from the Wifi Boys as they searched for an equaliser.

After the win , TelOne moved one place up the ladder into fourth place with 25 points from 16 matches.

TelOne FC coach Herbert Maruwa heaved a huge sigh of relief, as his men avoided a second home defeat, having lost to FC Platinum before the international break.

Last weekend, they  grabbed a away win to Green Fuel.

“This whole week I have been preaching that we need to be careful because this was always going to be a tough match.  ZPC Kariba lost 4-0 last weekend and they badly needed to comeback.

“We all saw what happened but thanks to Navaya, he is one of the senior players and he has always shown up when we need him the most. We now shift focus to our next match against Scottland,” Maruwa said.

His counterpart, Newton Chitewe was pleased with the result especially that they lost 4-0 in their last match against FC Platinum.

"This was a good response. At least we go back home with a point from the last two away games. The boys responded well and it could have been better had we managed to stay focused in the last minutes of the game. I am happy that we managed to correct ourselves from the many mistakes which we made last week against FC Platinum,” Chitewe said.

TelOne FC started the match in high tempo and forward Nigel Makumbe got their first chance of the game with a powerful shot from range. Goalkeeper Munditi was forced to make a reflex save on the 10th minute.

Eleven minutes later, Ngala got ZPC Kariba’s best chance of the first half, with a header from Samuel Makawa’s cross.

And goalkeeper Criss Mverechena was quick to react, as he parried the ball out for a corner-kick.

The second half was rather cagey, but the turning point of the match came on the 64th minute when Ngala headed a cross from Makawa, beating the diving Mverechena, as TelOne defenders were caught lapsing.
