SHURUGWI North Member of Parliament Joseph Mpasi has called on villagers in the constituency to embrace unity and collectively drive community development, saying progress is only achievable when citizens work together despite their political or social differences.
Speaking at a Zanu PF victory celebration party for ward 12 at Tongogara growth point on Friday last week, Mpasi encouraged villagers to put aside their differences and focus on rebuilding their communities through active participation in development initiatives.
"Unity is the bedrock of development," Mpasi said to a gathering of traditional and community leaders as well as villagers.
"We must not allow political differences or conflicts to derail our collective progress. Development knows no party. It is for everyone."
The MP said the elections were long gone and it was time for development for the betterment of Shurugwi and the country, as per President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no place and no one behind.
“By having these gatherings, we will be drawing close to each other in love, appreciating our people who voted for us to represent them in Parliament,” Mpasi said.
Learners, who recited poems, sang and excelled in other performances during the festivities, were rewarded.
Women, who were present at the celebrations, were each given two plates.

Mpasi has so far covered 20 wards, celebrating Zanu PF's victory in the August 2023 elections.
The MP has been on a whirlwind tour of his constituency, assessing progress on various developmental projects he pledged during his campaign.
True to his word, Mpasi has already overseen the rehabilitation of major roads, improvement in access to health facilities and schools in previously hard-to-reach areas.
In the education sector, several schools have benefited from classroom block and ablution facility construction as well as furniture donation, while others are now connected to solar-powered lighting systems, thanks to partnerships initiated by his office.
Health service delivery has also improved in some parts of the constituency with the refurbishment of Dombwe Clinic and many other health facilities.
The MP also facilitated the refurbishment of Shurugwi District Hospital's mortuary, which had not been functional for almost seven years.
Traditional leaders praised the MP’s hands-on approach and encouraged villagers to support his development agenda.
“Honourable Mpasi is not just talking, he is acting,” said Nelson Rugubhe, a village head in ward 13.
