CAPS United president Farai Jere believes his club has turned the corner, beginning with the next fixture against Bikita Minerals, and is confident they will achieve the target of winning the league championship.
Jere was at the club’s training session yesterday, where he spoke to the players first before having another meeting with the technical team amid the club’s struggle in the league.
The 2016 champions find themselves second from the bottom on the log standings with four points from the first six matches, after one win, one draw and four defeats.
League returnees Triangle United anchor the standings with one point so far and have since fired their coach, Luke Masomere.
In light of the recent run of bad results, Caps United have opted to beef up the technical team by bringing in another assistant coach who Jere could not name.
Jere promised Caps United bliss to the clubs’ disgruntled fans while declaring that the team could clinch the league championship.
“The fans were just sending their message that with the way we did business during the transfer window, we are expecting results, which is very normal. And what I want to promise them is that the good days are now coming; they will be smiling; they are going to come and enjoy their beloved Caps United, which they love so much," the Murehwa West legislator said.
“I want them to come in their numbers this coming weekend and they are going to leave the stadium smiling. We are going to give them three points because we are turning a new leaf.

“These meetings were just to encourage the players and technical team. The team played very well against Highlanders; they played like true champions and we still have a very big chance to win this year’s league championship. This is what I was telling the boys. And this is the time we just have to go to the next fixture and win.
“It was more of a psychological meeting with players to say you are not failures. We were saying to the players, 'Let's remain focused with the big goal. We need to win the league this year and no one is going to take us away from that,” he said.
Jere also feels that the club erred with its failure to replace former technical director Nelson Matongorere, who passed on last year, and assistant coach Fungai Kwashi, who left the club to join Chicken Inn.
“We had another meeting with the technical team and we agreed that we need to beef up our technical team. After the departure of [the late] Mr Matongorere and also Fungai Kwashi, we were caught napping.
“Lloyd Chitembwe is not going anywhere; his achievements are there for all to see, so we need that experience. We have walked that road before [of firing coaches] and we know the result. We have an assistant coach who is coming. Yesterday, I had an interview with him. He is our son who has done very well wherever he is. I don't want to give details.
“In the next two weeks, the boy will come and I can tell you the fans will be happy because he did very well for the club during his time. He also won the championship. He is now a Caf A qualified coach and has won a championship as a head coach, but he is not in Zimbabwe.
“Lloyd Chitembwe for the record has got a three-year contract which is expiring and my plan is to extend his contract by another three years,” Jere revealed.
It is understood that former midfielder Raymond Undi is on his way to join Chitembwe's backroom staff.
Jere believes the fixture has been harsh on CAPS United at the start of the season with too much travelling also affecting the team and is expecting a run of positive results beginning with a home date against Bikita Minerals on Sunday.
