Relief for Bosso as Fifa lifts ban

HIGHLANDERS

HIGHLANDERS transfer ban has been lifted after tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo offset a debt the club owed to its former coaches.

Bosso had been banned from registering new players by Fifa after they failed to pay ex-coach Baltemar Britto and his assistant around US$27 000.

Chivayo paid off the debt but the ban was not immediately lifted.

Highlanders could only pick from 18 players who were registered for their last two matches.

They lost against MWOS before thrashing Kwekwe United this weekend.

The club announced last night that the ban had been lifted.

"Finally, the wait is over! We are delighted to announce that the Fifa ban has been lifted, thanks to the efforts of a dedicated FIFA team as everything has been resolved,” Bosso wrote on its Facebook page.

"Once again, a special thank you to Sir Wicknell Chivayo for facilitating the payment. With this hurdle cleared, we can now register our new signings.

"They could be part of our squad for the upcoming match against Green Fuel."

Bosso were given a 45-day timeline to offset the debt but failed to meet the deadline.

However, Chivayo cleared that debt for Highlanders and Brito and Torres confirmed receiving their dues.

Despite Sunday's emphatic 4-0 win over Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debutants Kwekwe United at Barbourfields Stadium, Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu said having only 18 registered players had made life difficult for the club.

Brighton “MaNinja” Ncube notched a hat-trick, the first of the season, with the other goal coming from Melikhaya Ncube as the Bulawayo giants sent Kwekwe United packing at Emagumeni on Sunday.

Bosso lost four key players — Peter Muduhwa, Lynoth Chikuhwa, Godfrey Makaruse and Marvelous Chigumira.

The team desperately needed the clearance from Fifa as the transfer window closes on March 31.

The Bulawayo giants lost their first game to premier league newcomers MWOS 1-0 at Baobab Stadium.

They hit the road to Chisumbanje where they take on GreenFuel on Saturday in their third game of the season.

City neighbours Chicken Inn had a slow start to the season and are yet to find the net after two goalless draws against Bikita Minerals at home and away to Yadah.

They have a tough one at the weekend when they host FC Platinum at Luveve Stadium on Saturday.

The Norman Mapeza-coached FC Platinum drew nill-all with reigning champions Simba Bhora at Wadzanayi in their first game, returned home and beat Manica Diamonds 1-0, a confidence booster ahead of the GameCocks tie.
