ZIMBABWE U19 Women suffered a heartbreak after their ICC Women's T20 World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria was abandoned due to rain at Gahanga International Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda.
Nigeria secured Africa's slot for next year's World Cup in Malaysia on a head-to-head basis.
In the curtailed match, Zimbabwe restricted Nigeria to 77/8 in 20 overs. Runyararo Pasipanodya and Christina Mutasa took two wickets each, while captain Kelis Ndhlovu, Beloved Biza and Olinda Chare claimed one apiece.
Zimbabwe began their chase strongly at 7.6 runs per over, reaching 19/1 in 2.3 overs. However, heavy rain intervened and, despite efforts, the drainage issues at Gahanga Stadium prevented further play.
Nigeria's undefeated record in the tournament earned them the World Cup berth with an earlier four-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the group stage proving decisive.
