Tastiest Chibuku Super Cup

Sport

THE Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final line-up produced from the draw yesterday is probably the tastiest since the knockout tournament’s inception.

The eight teams that will battle for four slots in the next stage are probably the top sides of the topflight league at the moment and even a different outcome of the draw would still have produced salivating affairs.

No one can say they got the draw that they wanted.

Any team could have drawn any of the other seven and still produce a tough quarter-final.

Dynamos beat Ngezi Platinum Stars 2-0 last December at Baobab Stadium to lift the coveted trophy and are representing the country in the Caf Confederation Cup.

Their route back to the final is another rough one as they drew Yadah for the last eight showdown.

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders Simba Bhora date Highlanders in another quarter-final that promises embers if their previous clashes are anything to go by.

Highlanders’ chances of winning the league title have waned and it looks like the Chibuku Super Cup is their best bet for silverware.

Simba Bhora prevailed over Herentals at Wadzanai in the first round through a penalty lottery, with the Bulawayo giants accounting for Green Fuel at Barbourfields.

Reigning league champions, Ngezi Platinum entertain Caps United in another quarter-final duel.

Ngezi Platinum beat Bulawayo Chiefs 4-2 in the first round on Wednesday after twice coming from behind to book the quarter-final berth, while the Green Machine overcame Bikita Minerals.

Manica Diamonds will be home to FC Platinum in another quarter-final that promises fireworks as the Gem Boys cruised past Chegutu Pirates in the first round, with the Norman Mapeza-coached side edging TelOne.
