Manyuchi to headline boxing extravaganza in Byo

Deltaforce director and promoter Clyde Musonda who was in Bulawayo last week to begin preparations for the tournament, said the fight card is still to be finalised.

Former WBC welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi will headline a boxing extravaganza in Bulawayo later this month, a tournament that will also feature another former world boxing champion in Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire.

Deltaforce Boxing Promotions will promote the fights, scheduled for September 29.

Deltaforce director and promoter Clyde Musonda who was in Bulawayo last week to begin preparations for the tournament, said the fight card is still to be finalised.

He is, however, expecting a number of foreign boxers to feature and negotiations are ongoing to find Manyuchi and Chiwandire's suitable opponents.

The plan, according to Musonda, is to stage eight international fights on the day.

WBF Africa champion Tinashe “Chairman” Madziwana is also expected to feature in the tournament.

Deltaforce has also extended an invitation to South Africa-based former World Boxing Federation (WBF) Africa heavyweight champion Elvis Moyo to grace the event.

The competition will also feature amateur boxing as one of Deltaforce’s objectives is to bring development of the sport in Bulawayo.

Musonda was accompanied on the trip to Bulawayo by his chief operations officer Eric Gandiwa as they took a tour of potential venues whilst also engaging potential partners.

Musonda said: “I and my team we have decided to take boxing to Bulawayo on September 29. On the day, we are going to have eight international bouts and one Zimbabwe Super Middleweight title fight. Also to feature on the day is Charles Manyuchi, Kudakwashe “Take Money” and the newly WBF Africa champion Tinashe “Chairman” Musonda.

The 33-year-old former WBC Silver Welterweight champion Manyuchi last month announced that he had hung his gloves, but it appears he has reconsidered his decision.

As part of their tour, Gandiwa said they visited Blue Hills Camp, just outside Bulawayo and the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, which are the potential venues for the boxing show.
