FORMER world champion Charles Manyuchi’s long-awaited last bout has been set for Chivhu at Phil Jen Lodges, on July 28.
Dubbed the Grand Finale, the non-title bout against Sherrif Kasongo of the Democratic Republic of Congo comes after Manyuchi announced his retirement from professional boxing.
Monica Cheru the bout manager of the Grand Finale confirmed the developments.
“Initially the bout was supposed to take place in May, however we had to go back to the drawing board over the tournament because a number of stakeholders wanted the match held in different parts of the country. They all had valid reasons, Manyuchi being a national icon.
"So we ended up agreeing to have three bouts in different parts of the country and the other bouts will be announced in due course,” she said.
The two boxers will be locking horns for the second time, the first having been back in July 2017 when our own Manyuchi emerged victorious by unanimous decision.
Cheru went on to appreciate Zimbabweans for the support bestowed upon Manyuchi during his career.
"Zimbabwe has been grateful to Manyuchi for flying its flag high, with the government having come on board to give him tokens of appreciation for his exploits in the ring.

"Twice, he has been accorded the Sportsperson of the Year award through the Annual National Sports Awards. He is a model sportsperson who has invested well from his sweat as evidenced by the various business ventures he has embarked on," she said.
Manyuchi made his professional debut in 2009, and won the ABU welterweight title in 2013. In 2014, he won the WBC International welterweight title against Patrick Allotey.
He successfully defended his WBC crown in Lusaka against Devis Caceres. He made another successful defense of the WBC International belt against Gianluca Frezza, in the latter's native Italy.
Manyuchi further advanced his career by beating Dmitry Mikhailenko in Yekaterinburg for the WBC Silver title.
