Iran maintains civilized resistance in the face of aggression

Embassy of the Islamic Republic

In the heart of the Middle East lies a land whose name echoes through the corridors of history—Iran. With a civilization stretching back over 5,000 years, Iran has given the world philosophy, poetry, architecture, governance, and spirituality.

It is a land that has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, the spread of religions, and the fusion of cultures. Yet, despite the richness of its past, Iran once again finds itself at the centre of an unjust and aggressive confrontation—this time, through a joint military assault by Israel and the United States of America on its sovereign territory and peaceful nuclear infrastructure.

The recent coordinated attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, conducted under the full oversight of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), represents a clear violation of international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter. Such actions not only infringe upon Iran’s sovereignty but also pose a serious threat to regional and global stability. But for Iranians, this is not the first time their nation has been tested. Throughout history, Iran has demonstrated an unwavering capacity to withstand foreign aggression while remaining rooted in its deep civilizational identity.

A Civilization Forged in Endurance

Iran’s legacy is not one of conquest, but of contribution. From the Achaemenid Empire’s declaration of human rights engraved on the Cyrus Cylinder to the intellectual flowering of the Islamic Golden Age under Persian scholars like Avicenna and Khayyam, Iran’s mark on human history is indelible. This civilization has endured invasions by Alexander the Great, Mongol armies, and colonial interference in modern times, yet each time, it has rebuilt—not just cities and borders, but ideas and institutions.

What unites each chapter of Iran’s historical journey is a spirit of resistance—resistance not only against military invasion but against cultural erasure, economic domination, and political coercion.

Resistance in the Modern Era

The Islamic Revolution of 1979 marked a decisive moment in modern history, when the Iranian people reclaimed their sovereignty through a mass, indigenous movement rooted in justice, independence, and cultural authenticity. Since then, Iran has endured decades of unlawful economic sanctions and relentless pressure on its people by Western governments. Nevertheless, the Iranian nation has not only survived but has emerged as a regional power, with significant achievements in science, education, and technology.

The recent joint aggression by the U.S. and Israeli regimes echoes the same imperial impulse that ancient Persia faced in various forms—an attempt to subdue a nation that refuses to conform to externally imposed doctrines. But Iran’s response remains consistent with its heritage: resilience grounded in dignity.

A Moral and Legal Stand

Iran’s right to self-defence, as recognized under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, is not merely a legal technicality. It is a moral imperative rooted in the defence of its people, territory, and future. The targeting of nuclear facilities safeguarded by international agreements such as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is not just an attack on Iran—it is an attack on diplomacy itself.

Such provocations further expose the selective morality of international politics, where certain actors defy global norms with impunity, while others are expected to comply under duress. In the face of these double standards, Iran’s historical wisdom calls not for capitulation but for principled resistance.

A Message to the World

Iran is not a transient state born of post-colonial borders; it is an ancient civilization with a proud memory and a future vision. The world must understand that Iran’s strength lies not merely in its defence systems or geopolitical positioning, but in the unity of its people and the depth of its heritage. Attempts to weaken Iran by force only strengthen its resolve.

Let history be the judge: Empires that sought to dominate Iran have vanished into the dust, while Iran has continued to write new chapters in its story of sovereignty and self-determination.

The ancient Persian fire of dignity and resistance still burns—and it will not be extinguished by warplanes or propaganda.

Let the aggressors remember: Iran was here long before them, and will be here long after them.
