Silobela man kills brother in beer dispute

A 33-year-old man from Silobela in the Midlands has been arrested for allegedly murdering his elder brother following a dispute over beer.

A 33-year-old man from Silobela in the Midlands has been arrested for allegedly murdering his elder brother following a dispute over beer.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, which occurred in the early hours of July 13 at around 1 AM near Turtle Mine Tuckshops in Silobela.

According to Mahoko, the two brothers—Bekezela Moyo (33) and Thinkwell Moyo (36) from Ntabeni Village  under Chief Ntabeni —were drinking beer when an argument erupted over the purchase of alcohol.

The altercation turned violent when Bekezela allegedly struck his brother on the head with a log.

"Thinkwell collapsed at the scene and was rushed to Silobela District Hospital by bystanders but was pronounced dead upon arrival," Mahoko said.

Police attended the scene and arrested Bekezela.

Investigations are ongoing, and the case will be brought before the courts.

Mahoko urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid violence.
