A 61-year-old Plumtree man has been given a six months wholly suspended jail sentence for threatening to kill his 70-year-old stepmother over witchcraft allegations.
Armson Ngwenya of Chief Bango's area appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware last week where he was convicted.
Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi said on July 6, 2025 at around 6 PM, Ngwenya confronted his stepmother, Simomo Sibanda, at her homestead, accusing her of using witchcraft to cause his mother's death.
The altercation escalated when Ngwenya drew a knife and threatened to kill Sibanda, forcing her to flee to a neighbouring homestead for safety.
Nembaware handed down a six-month prison sentence, but suspended it for five years on condition that Ngwenya does not commit any similar offense during that period.
If convicted again, he would face imprisonment without the option of a fine.
