Chief Deli rallies villagers on cultural values

CHIEF Deli of Umguza in Matabeleland North has rallied villagers to visit cultural shrines to appease ancestral spirits over moral decay to emancipate the country from social and economic hardships.

CHIEF Deli of Umguza in Matabeleland North has rallied villagers to visit cultural shrines to appease ancestral spirits over moral decay to emancipate the country from social and economic hardships.

The traditional leader told Southern Eye that Zimbabwe was facing many challenges, which he said emanated from neglect or cultural misconduct.

He said there was a need to revert to our cultural values.

“The country is facing so many challenges because people have deviated from their culture and we received messages from the spirit mediums that the country should be cleansed of evil spirits on three occasions.

“We are in the process of doing that, having started three months ago. We are sacrificing cows with three different colours. We will conclude the cleansing process in August,” Chief Deli said.

He said there were many social and economic challenges, including children not obeying their parents, adding that such spirits needed to be exorcised.

“People are coming from different parts of the country, such as Gokwe and Masvingo, among others, to gather here for this purpose, and it is something that is being done countrywide.

“People are donating towards the occasion in the form of cash and other items deemed necessary and we gather at a place in Khami Ruins,” he said.

Pumula MP Sichelesile Mahlangu added her voice, saying the country has made a lot of history which remained undocumented.

She said they were doing an outreach, visiting the country’s monuments, such as Pupu in Lupane and  Masvingo.

“We are happy that the government has taken an initiative, working with some partners to revive places of cultural history. We are happy with what has been done in Pupu and Masvingo.

“We need more of this so that future generations will know what is happening. More battlefields that involved our war veterans must be marked because they involve a lot of history of our country,” she said.
